MARK YOUR CALENDAR for MAY 5, 2015
So, what is this "Big Payback"?

"The Big Payback is a community-wide, 24-hour online giving challenge hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. This charitable event will help Middle Tennessee nonprofits raise much-needed unrestricted dollars and bring awareness to pressing needs in our communities."  In other words, it is a way to raise awareness and money for middle Tennessee nonprofit organizations in a fun and competitive way.

So what does this mean for Our Thrift Store?

We are a participating nonprofit in this fundraising event.  Bottom line, on May 5th, we want all of our friends and followers and their friends and followers, to donate $$ through our specified link.  Your gifts made during The Big Payback  will make us eligilble for incentives and awards for participating nonprofits, which will help us qualify for special prizes and bonuses!

Why is this important?

Your donations will assist us in replacing one of our barely functional HVAC units, and enable us to hire more adults with special needs and coaches!!

Miracle Thrift Story #112

Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 5:42PM

If you are reading this, then you probably know how much fun it is to shop and find that awesome deal, steal and treasure.  But sometimes, miraculous things happen - especially at Our Thrift Store and this is one example of one of those miracles!

This is Brenda Rummell, resident of Franklin, Tn.  She shops at Our Thrift Store every Saturday.  Upon a recent visit to our thrift store, she came up to the counter full of excitement for what she had just found!  This beautiful handmade doll - but it wasn't just any doll - it was HER doll.

In 1989, Brenda began making dolls and in 1990 when her family moved to Franklin, Tennessee, she began selling her dolls at a Main Street Store called Patchwork Palace!  Her dolls became very popular and she began to get requests to make custom dolls, such as a Bride and Groom set and several UT dolls!  Between 1989 and 1993, she made and sold over 100 dolls.  These dolls were very detailed and Brenda did everything from sewing and stuffing the body, sewing the clothes and a very labor intensive process for the hair.  As life became busier with her children getting older, she stopped making the dolls,  all the while,  thinking she was going to make one more doll for her future granddaughter!  But somehow, that just didn't happen.

On a recent Saturday,  Brenda was strolling through Our Thrift Store when she stumbled upon her doll!  A doll that she had made so many years ago.  A doll that she can one day give to her future granddaughter!  What was even more thrilling than finding the doll, was finding her in such beautiful condition!  Someone had obviously taken special care of this doll and she was almost perfect!  Brenda was so impressed that someone had cared for something that she had created.  It was truely a blessing.  And we are so grateful to be a part in that!

Congratulations Paul on 9 years of service!!

Why we are all here!

Why We are ALL Here - Sara The Matriarch

Friday, January 22, 2010 at 8:25PM
OK, it's time to introduce you to our matriarch - Our Daughter Sara. It was 2004 when we found ourselves trying to find a job for Sara who was graduating from High School. Sara had worked at different short term jobs with very low pay and no serious long term solutions. There was always hope when she started with a new job but the support necessary and required for gifted young adults disappears soon after the first day.As prayerful parents we knew God had a plan and a place for Sara and her gifts. We had NO IDEA that the Lord would not only answer our prayer for Sara but also for almost 20 other families prayers for their children by bringing into fruition " Our Thrift Store"

Meet Sara. Sara LOVES her Independence, loves her job and takes ownership of every task. She also VOLUNTEERS one day a week for a needy non profit to give back. Sara Loves and Cares deeply for others and is always friendly. Sara could easily manage other young adults because she not only knows the task needed to be accomplished but how to complete them. Sara enjoys home movies, music, church and her dog and best friend Lexi.

Sara is also a Prayer Warrior and spends much time praying for her friends at Narrowgate http://www.narrowgatefoundation.org/ as well as many other friends she knows or meets. Sara has an incredible memory and often wakes up to remind us it's someones Birthday.

Not a day goes by without Sara calling a Cousin, Aunt, Uncle, or friend to say hello or ask a question because she HAD to know or simply to touch base because it was necessary to her caring heart. Sara is our special gift and as her parents we could not EVEN put into words how we have been polished because of our Princess Sara.
